Neighborhood Garden 2007/12/10 18:46 Karma: 0
Just wanted to let everyone know...the Columbus Square neighborhood of Downtown St. Louis applied for a grant last month with Gateway Greening to do a greening/flower project at the corner of 10th and O'Fallon in Filipiak Park. It's a great visible spot to welcome people that come into downtown from I70. Officials from Gateway Greening will be meeting with us tomorrow at that location to discuss our plans and answer any of our questions. I am optimistic the grant will be awarded

I know it is on short notice, but if anyone is available to attend, we would love to see you! If awarded, the project will start this spring...we would love to have more downtown residents involved in this project and sprucing the area up

Just an update:

We met with Gateway Greening Wednesday evening of last week in the middle of the rain. The meeting went well...they loved Filipiak Park and I think they saw great potential. We will now be doing tests on soil samples to gauge how much new soil is needed to replenish the nutrients.

We have officially been awarded the grant! The award ceremony is later this month and the first neighborhood garden project (built/maintained by residents) in downtown St. Louis will be underway by April!

I will post more details on the specific date in which work will be initiated as soon as those details are solidified. For anyone that is interested in making downtown St. Louis look its best and would like to improve the aesthetics of one of the primary entrances to downtown, feel free to message me for more information. I'm sure the first day will be the hardest work, so any assistance would be great. Just be ready to get a little dirty

Re:Neighborhood Garden - April 12! 2008/03/14 15:26 Karma: 0
We will begin work on Saturday, April 12 at 9am. Of course, we'll be meeting at Filipiak Park which is at the corner of North 10th and O'Fallon next to the historic Shrine of St. Joseph. Hope to see some fellow DSLRA members there! Please msg me with any questions.

James

For anyone interested:

Soil preparation for the garden was completed in mid-April!

This Saturday, May 3rd, we will be planting the flowers provided by the Gateway Greening grant as well as 100 marigolds provided by Operation Brightside. Columbus Square has also planned the OB clean-up blitz day a week early to coincide with the flower planting.

This Saturday is also the Downtown Living Tour. With our work being done on 10th Street, many people will be entering downtown on 10th Street and checking out the progress. We'll be meeting at Filipiak Park (N. 10th and O'Fallon) at 11 a.m., so anyone is welcome to come over and help out
