I'm sure many of you are aware of Operation Brightside, but for those of you that are not, please check out their site at

Every spring the they do an Operation Blitz which is basically a citywide cleanup. They depend on block captains to promote the event a little bit (they actually do a city-wide mailing on this) and encourage neighbors to come out and help clean up the block on the specified date. So, I would encourage everyone here to contact Operation Brightside if they wish to become a block captain. Block captains will be supplied with waste bags if needed for the cleanup event. It's a great way to clean up downtown and get to meet some neighbors along the way.
